Forearm Crutches for Adults & Kids | Elbow Crutches 300 lb | PCP 5090
Hurry up, only 3 items left in stock.
PCP 5090 Push-Button Forearm Crutches — available in adult and junior frames. Sold as a pair. Both sizes carry the same 300 lb capacity; the only difference is the height range they adjust through.
- Adult (5090) — users 5'2" to 6'2"
- Junior (5090-J) — users 4'2" to 5'2": kids, teens and petite adults
Choose by the user's height rather than winding the wrong frame to its limit — a crutch adjusted to the very end of its range puts the cuff too close to the elbow and the grip at the wrong angle.
Why forearm rather than underarm
Forearm crutches carry weight through the cuff and grip instead of the armpit. Underarm crutches press on the nerves and vessels running through the axilla, and sustained pressure there causes the aching, tingling and hand weakness that long-term users report. Forearm crutches also leave the hands freer — the cuff holds the crutch on the arm, so you can let go of a grip to open a door or take out keys without the crutch dropping.
Features
- 300 lb weight capacity in both sizes
- 1" (2.5 cm) aluminum shaft — light enough to swing all day, strong enough for full weight-bearing
- Coated cuffs with 180° pivot — the cuff follows the forearm rather than fighting it
- Molded vinyl grips on welded, coated steel handles
- Push-button adjustment at both the legs and the cuffs — set independently, no tools
The trade-off, honestly
Forearm crutches need more upper-body strength and more coordination than underarm crutches, and there is a learning curve of a few days. For a short-term injury you will be off in a fortnight, underarm crutches are easier to pick up. For months of use, or permanent use, this is the better choice on posture and comfort. For a child, involve the physiotherapist — technique matters more than the equipment.
Getting the height right
With the tip about 6 inches out to the side of the foot, the grip should sit level with the wrist crease and the elbow should hold roughly a 15–20° bend. The cuff belongs 1–1.5 inches below the elbow — high enough to stay on, low enough not to catch the joint. Bring them into the showroom and we will set both and watch a few steps.

Choosing the size
Go by the user's height, not by age. The adult frame covers 5'2" to 6'2" and the junior covers 4'2" to 5'2". At 5'2" either will fit, so pick the one the user is growing into rather than out of. Do not buy the adult frame for a shorter user on the assumption it will wind down far enough — at the bottom of its range the cuff sits too close to the elbow and the geometry stops working.
Why the load path matters
Underarm crutches rest against the axilla, where the brachial plexus and axillary vessels sit close to the surface. Sustained pressure there produces the aching, tingling and hand weakness long-term crutch users report. A forearm crutch moves the load to the cuff and grip, which is why they are the standard choice for months of use rather than weeks.
Hands stay usable
Because the cuff holds the crutch on the arm, a grip can be released to open a door or carry something without the crutch dropping. Most people notice this difference first.
Two independent adjustments
Leg height sets the grip at wrist height. Cuff height sets where the band sits on the forearm. Both matter, and getting only one right is the usual cause of wrist or elbow pain a week in.
Materials & Care

- Check cuff and leg fasteners for tightness monthly
- Re-check the height setting on a growing child every few months
- Do not use if a shaft is bent, dented or cracked
