Why a brace should be fitted, not guessed

Three things that decide whether a support actually helps.

Support level matters more than price

OTC grade their range from minimum through medium to maximum support. A maximum-support hinged brace on a mild strain restricts movement that should be recovering; a light elastic sleeve on an unstable knee does nothing. Matching the level to the injury is most of the decision.

Sizing is by measurement, not shoe size

Nearly every model here is sized from a circumference — around the bend of the knee, the narrowest part of the wrist, the waist. A brace one size out is either ineffective or a tourniquet. We measure in the showroom, which takes two minutes and saves a return.

Follow the indication, not the label

Each product below lists what the manufacturer designed it for. Carpal tunnel, plantar fasciitis and osteoarthritis all have specific braces, and the generic one usually is not it. If a physio or surgeon named a model, bring the name and we will match it.

If a physiotherapist or surgeon named a model, quote us the number and we will match it exactly. If nobody did, describe what hurts and when — we will narrow this list to two or three and measure you for the right size.

Fitting, funding, lead times and returns.

Why are there no prices on the full list?

Most of this catalogue we order in rather than stock, and pricing moves with the manufacturer and with size. A number printed here would go stale and mislead you. Anything on our shelf is priced on the shop pages; for anything else, quote us the model number on 604-240-2450 and you will get a real figure the same day.

How do I know which support level I need?

OTC grade the range minimum, medium and maximum. Minimum is compression and warmth for mild aches. Medium adds stays or pads for instability. Maximum means hinges or rigid panels, for post-operative use and significant instability — and is usually specified by a clinician. If you are guessing between two, come in and try both.

Can I return a brace if it does not fit?

Braces and supports are personal-use items, so returns are limited once worn for hygiene reasons. That is exactly why we measure and fit in the showroom rather than selling you a box. If something we fitted is wrong, come back and we will sort it.

How long does an ordered model take?

Usually about a week. Airway Surgical ship from Ottawa, so it is domestic freight. If a size is on back-order we tell you when we quote, not after you have paid.

Will extended health cover a brace?

Often, yes — orthopaedic bracing is one of the categories extended health plans do commonly reimburse, usually with a prescription from a physician or physiotherapist. MSP generally does not cover it. We provide itemised receipts with the model number, which is what most insurers ask for.

Do you fit children?

Yes. The KidsLine covers knee sleeves and wraps, ankle supports, wrist splints and arm slings for roughly ages 2 to 12, and we keep several in stock. Children's sizing is by measurement rather than age, so bring the child rather than the guess.

Can I pay over time?

Yes. Our in-house financing is 0% interest with no credit check, split over 3, 6 or 12 months with a 10% deposit — relevant mainly for the walker boots and rigid orthoses at the higher end. Estimate payments on our payment calculator.

Hospital beds and home care equipment

Most of what we do starts with a bedroom. Our hospital beds, pressure-relief mattresses, patient lifts and overbed tables turn a spare room or a living room into a care room, usually within a day of the call. Mobility equipment built for real streets

Our mobility scooters, power wheelchairs, manual wheelchairs and rollators and walkers are picked for the ground they will actually be used on. A White Rock hill, a Richmond dyke path and a Langley gravel driveway all ask different things of the same machine, and we would rather tell you that before you buy.

Rent it before you own it

Some equipment is needed for six weeks, not six years. Our rentals cover beds, wheelchairs, scooters, lift chairs and knee walkers by the day, week or month, delivered and collected. We also rent medical equipment as props to film and TV productions across BC. Past roughly six months, buying usually costs less, and we will say so.

Bathroom safety, commodes, braces and supports and everyday essentials for the parts of the day that get hardest first. 0% financing over 3, 6 or 12 months with a 10% deposit and no credit check.
