Four measurements that decide whether equipment gets used or ends up in the garage.
Wrist height, for a walker or rollator
Stand upright in the shoes normally worn, arms hanging loose. The handle should sit level with the crease of the wrist. Elbows then bend around fifteen degrees when gripping, which keeps the shoulders down and the weight over the frame rather than out in front of it.
Hip width, for a wheelchair
Measure across the widest point while seated, then add roughly an inch total. Standard chairs run 16, 18 and 20 inches. If someone is between sizes, we size down rather than up — a chair that is too wide makes self-propelling harder and lets posture drift.
Seat depth and height, for a lift chair
From the back of the hip to the back of the knee, less about two inches. Feet flat on the floor with the knees level with the hips. Petite, medium and tall models exist for exactly this reason, and guessing from a website photo is how people end up with a chair they cannot get comfortable in.
The doorways at home
Bring the width of the narrowest doorway and any hallway turn. South Surrey has a lot of 1970s and 1980s homes with tight hall corners, and it decides whether a standard or narrow-frame chair is the right call.

How do I know what size walker or rollator to buy?
Handle height should meet the crease of your wrist when you stand upright with your arms hanging loose. Most rollators adjust across a range, so the model matters less than setting it correctly. What size wheelchair do I need?

My parent is coming home from Peace Arch Hospital. What do we need?
It depends on the discharge, but the usual combination is a rollator for indoors, something for the bathroom, and occasionally a wheelchair for longer distances. Call us with the discharge summary and we will tell you what is genuinely needed and what is not.
Do you work with local physiotherapists and occupational therapists?
Regularly. If an OT has recommended a specific model or measurement, bring the note and we will match it. If you do not have one and the situation is complicated, we will say so rather than sell you something that needs an assessment first.
