What discharge lists usually ask for
If yours does not match any of these, call and describe it. We will tell you what you do and do not need.
Measure the narrowest doorway on the route into the room, and the floor space where the equipment will sit. Almost every problem we see comes down to a measurement nobody took — a bed that will not turn the corner at the top of the stairs, a wheelchair an inch too wide for a hallway. Two minutes with a tape measure saves a wasted delivery on the day it matters most.
Two kinds of Surrey Memorial discharge

Ministry funding for medical equipment in BC must be approved before you purchase — buying and claiming afterwards generally does not work. Can a hospital bed go in the living room?
Yes, and for a Surrey Memorial discharge it is often the right answer. If stairs have become the problem, moving the bed downstairs solves more than any single piece of equipment. You need roughly 88 by 36 inches of floor space plus room to stand on at least one side, and a power outlet within reach for a full-electric model.
I have a list from the occupational therapist but I do not understand it.
Read it to us over the phone, or photograph it and send it through our contact form. Hospital lists use clinical terms and rarely mention sizes, brands or whether renting is an option. We will translate it into specific items and tell you what each one is actually for.
What if we get it home and it is wrong?
Call us. If something does not fit the room or does not suit the person using it, we would rather sort it out than have it sit unused in a hallway. That is also the argument for renting first when a recovery is short — it lowers the cost of changing your mind.
Is any of this covered?
MSP generally does not fund home medical equipment. Funding usually runs through Ministry programs such as BCEA or PWD, extended health plans, ICBC or WorkSafeBC depending on the circumstances. Yes. Our Surrey showroom has beds, wheelchairs, walkers, lift chairs and bathroom safety equipment set up so you can try them. For a bed in particular it is worth seeing the height range in person — it matters more than the spec sheet suggests.
Are you connected to Surrey Memorial or Fraser Health?
